diwali at vgsom

Diwali this time around was at vgsom ,iit kharagpur ... n it was awesome ...
Rangoli n ILLU ( illumination ) are contests held every year at IIT Kgp.In this competition each of the 14 halls at iit kgp have to draw a huge rangoli , depicting any theme they want. The size is like huge - can be sumthing like 10 feet by 20 feet.
and then theres illumination where using mitti diyas one has to depict a theme different from rangoli.
how is it done ? - it is done on a bamboo chatai. First of all the theme is drawn upon the bamboo chatai. then at cross points wired loops are tied . These are like hanging baskets for mitti diyas - in which oil is filled. n there upon at the time of the competition the whole scene is lit up and this has to be done within 2 minutes, cos after that the flames jus become un manageable !!!!!

n its huge - believe me its huge - n theres no limit ... minimum sizes of illu depictions that i have seen is 10 feet by 10 feet. so u can jus imagine the scale ...

n its beautiful ...

This time around MMM hall ( which has VGSOM block) is participating in the rangoli and illumination contest as one team.
All the blocks are working together and its turning out to be a good inter block interaction.

For the rangoli, India shining, optical illusion, radha krishan, mahabharat were some of the themes were discussed upon....
Finally, after a lot of brain storming and guidance from Gautam Sinha Sir, the theme was finally decided upon.
The venue for rangoli is the common room of SDS(VGSOM) block hostel itself.
N so began the Rangoli work with the drawing of the theme picture.... n buoy hats off to the sketchers - who have been able to draw on such a huge scale with such perfection.
Then came the endless color filling part n hey it’s some work!!!
Shifts of people working in the evenings, uncounted student hours n tireless work of all block students together as a team, has brought it to an almost-done shape.
The miracle is unfolding slow n steady.

Being in kharagpur this is one exp that we surely won’t forget....

On the other side of it, diya holders were readied along side ... with a record of 4000 being readied on d first day - d batch sure is enthusiastic about this event....in all only 25000 diyas were used ...

Now today they are being put up on the stand n readied for day after tomorrow ...d theme for the same is also interesting.
The theme chosen was : how iit shapes life if an iitian and how iitian shaoe this world....

Gautam Sinha sir and his wife has really guided n grilled us along with this event.
He has been here every night n been a motivating force to the batch.

Its been a bonding event and brought all of us together as a big family ... n the feeling is awesome.
Doesnt make u miss home at the special occasion of Dipawali.

Last but not the least, heres wishing you all,
A very very Happy Diwali !!!

a glimpse of it all ...

The train journey begins…

The train journey begins…

A few hours after the midnight,

I stand at the door and look out,

Cool air blows through my hair,

Fresh n pure,

Gentle like someone specials care.

Unfolds before my eyes a carpet of green

Unending……

As far it can be seen,

Horizoned by a white foggy layer.

Half dark half lit up,

With the world just waking up,

The serenity not breaking,

Jus their sleep…

The birds waking up from their nest,

Leaving in pursuit of the days food quest,

Scarecrows to do away with the pests,

Flies by a white fawn,

A white lotus in the small pond decorates the dawn,

Oh Unending beauty,

Pure, deep and untouched.

Doesn’t cease to amaze me

N I drink on the beautiful sights

Like a thirsty child…..
